do not force the cover all the way down. Should be fairly easy to

Lot of shipwrights / sail maker's tools including two

palm to push the needle and the jaw end to pull it.

Just when you think you've seen it all.... this one
has me baffled. At first glance I thought it was a custom made job
and somebody had inserted the Marples logo from another tool. On
second thoughts, this is obviously a professionally made casting.
Your guess is as good as mine as to the function of this plane. It
has a relatively fine mouth and rebate plane type escapements and a
weird rebate cutter and a heavy duty clamp. I first thought it
might be a shoot board plane but the rabbet features don't quite fit
that function. Obviously a special plane made for a specific purpose
- similar to printers or shoe makers planes. It would be interesting
to know what it was for and if it was featured in one of the Marples
catalogues. 10 3/4" long with a 2 3/8" cutter. Cast iron body
with wood infill frog and front bun, covered with a steel plate. $

This is by far the rarest little gem of a hammer I've
come across. Markings on top most probably say 'Warranted (Cast)
Steel', which would make it English. I believe it's a different
version of lot 451 i.e. another saw (teeth) setting hammer. Like lot
451, the two sides are not symmetrical and the diagonal peen is
wider than the others and sticks out 5/8". Fitted with a 9" old
style hickory handle. The head is 4 1/2" long. I think it's
priceless but you can make it yours for $ 150 |
