Gauges Marking Mortise Butt  Dowelling Jigs

447 Little used Robinson rosewood and brass mortice gauge. Small chip to stem-end.   $ 40

446 Outstanding solid boxwood and brass mortice gauge. One stress crack on top of fence. Pins are almost full. Surly professionally made but I can't find a maker's mark. Best one out of a box of one hundred.  $ 110

445 Well made Famos (German?)  double stemmed marking gauge with metric scales. Probably the most useful of the lot. $ 30

444 Stanley 77 rosewood and brass marking and mortice gauge. All pins are good. Some minor bruising to edges.  $ 70

182 Three different Stanley butt gauges. $ 50

148 Stanley 95 mortise and butt marking gauge. Made in USA; label on box sais made in Canada. (A Stanley ploy to save taxes/duties on tools sold within the British Commonwealth) Again, storage rust and dirt. Keeping tools in their boxes for 20 years or more is not a good idea. $ 30

65 Stanley 92 butt & rabbet gauge (can be used a mortise gauge as well). Cant's see any markings. Rosewood fence shows quite a bit of wear but the rest is astonishingly good and complete with the steel scribe and the sliding shoe. One of the rarer Stanley gauges. $ 50

49 Scholl's patent March 8, 1864 four stem rosewood marking gauge. Age crack and some damage to one stem end. I suspect the ornate brass screw is an old furniture screw but it fits and works perfectly well.  $ 90

208 The rarest of them all: Wiesener 3 3/4"/ 400 grams brass with steel tip and internal reel. I remember searching in vain for patent 6247 25 years ago. These days half an hour on Google cracked it. The real patent for this plumb bob was lodged in England in September 3, 1907 by W.G.Wiesener and granted as Australian Patent 12064 in 1908. This plumb bob almost certainly was sold by T.F.Wiesener, Sydney, at the time a major supplier of scientific instruments. I know of only one other example in the Dogan Basak collection. That one is boxed and looks a lot more refined. Given the 'fake' patent number and the somewhat crude stamping on this plumb bob, I believe it would have been made to specification before the actual patent was granted.

161 1 pound Speed Bob with internal reel. I remember them hitting the market 15 years ago, made in a garage in Culver City CA, I believe.  Don't know how many were made but they sure don't show up anymore. 8" long. $ 100

Drawing, Drafting, Calculating Tools and Instruments

255 Three very good, little used proportional dividers by different makers. Two boxed. $ 70

205 Stanley Fuller calculator in original box. Good and complete examples command very high prices, this is not one of them. Both ends suffered some damage, the brass bracket that holds the calculator does not fit into the top slot and there is wear and tear on the cylinders. Still, these are great display pieces with that air of sophisticated mathematical genius you needed before everybody acquired it for free with an electronic calculator. $ 200

160 Revolution counter / speed indicators, one Starrett, one unmarked with bell. They turn ok but I haven't tested them at speed.  $ 30

156 Improved Wire Measuring Machine - my three-legged cast iron mate is back! I bought and sold this many years ago, shipping from USA was a killer and managed to knock one of the back legs in half. Don't know what happened to the amputated part. I would mount this on a wall for display. It's an impressive looking device. 12" tall and very heavy. $ 180

98 Fowler 'Magnum" Long Scale calculator with instructions in original case plus a number of various other speed, distance etc. calculators. $ 90
