Stanley 100 block plane

offered 1898 - 1958

3 1/2"  long with  a 1" cutter.

Tailed little block plane. Black japanned, from around 1940 onwards the lever cap had a red finish and the model number was cast into the top of the squirrel tail.

Problems: some models have no markings on the plane and some cutters were not marked, either. Others have only an S foundry mark and so on. There are many other makers who produced this type of handled block plane and a lot of them are offered as Stanley. If you want to make sure only buy the marked examples or at least one with a Stanley logo on the cutter.

Stanley 100 1/2 block plane

offered 1936 - 1962

3 1/2"  long with  a 1" cutter.

same as the No 100 but with a curved bottom side to side and heel to toe. (double radius) Given the production period of this plane you're more likely to come across a model with the red lever cap. Some collectors will pay a premium for the all black plane.
