Stanley 48 Tongue and Groove Plane

offered 1876 - 1942

10 1/2"  long with 2  5/16" cutters.

Fence rotates to block one of the cutters if you want to cut a groove only. Rotate it back to cut the tongue. Used on boards 3/4" - 1 1/4".

Early models are black japanned with ornate brass screws on the clamps. These are priced higher. Later models are nickel plated and last models have no ivy decoration on the handle.

Problems: fence, often chipped on corners, pin that locks the fence in place not working, missing or bent spring  . Minor problem: cutter missing or replaced. (as a rule they are not marked)
