Stanley 96 chisel gauge

offered 1888 - 1922

2 1/4"  long, works with a 1/4" chisel

First model has patent date on side. Second model pictured. Later models have no markings.

Obviously not a plane but once you attach it to a chisel you basically have a small handled plane to lift a 1/4" shaving for blind nailing. I doubt very much that this little gadget found many friends, if you can't blind nail with a chisel alone their must be something wrong with your eye-hand co-ordination! However, if you think your workshop is not complete without a chisel gauge you can buy a cheap copy made by Footprint, Veritas etc.
