Stanley 17 block plane offered 1888 - 1942 Same as No 16 but 1" longer with nickel plated trimmings *). Note the worn plating on the front knob. Later models have an adjustable mouth. PS: The block plane numbering system is quite confusing - especially when it comes to identical planes with different trimmings. It's easier if you compare models of the same vintage and almost impossible for later planes because most of the later Stanley block planes ended up with some nickel plated trimmings - whatever model number they were. *) In Stanley jargon nickel plated trimmings include lever cap, (depth) adjuster nut and front knob |
