Stanley 5 jack plane

offered 1867 - 1984

14" long with  a 2" cutter

Note: iron & lever cap same size as No 4. Common size in America but less so down under where the 5 1/2 seems to have taken its place. Hence, US models don't show up that much in Australia. If you buy one overseas make sure it's a pre-war model that will keep its value. Postage for a late model is probably more than the re-sale value of the plane.

Stanley A 5 aluminium jack plane

Stanley A5  aluminium jack plane

offered 1925 - 1935

14" long with  a 2" cutter

Note that the plane in the picture has a hanging hole in the toe. This seems to be a bad habit of mainly American handyman - drill a hole in the back of your plane so that you can hang it above the workbench. I haven't observed many "holed" planes in Australia. Hanging holes and holes drilled to attach fences and the likes don't affect the use but they reduce the value for collectors.
