Stanley 61 low angle block plane
offered 1911 - 1935
6" long with 1 3/8" cutter
Black japanned with nickel plated trimmings.
This is how Stanley's marketing & numbering system
works: Design a plane, call it No 60. Make some improvements to it, i.e.
add an adjustable mouth. But wait, what about the first model without
the adjustable mouth? Let's
make a new plane, same as the old one we made ten years ago but this
time we call it a 61. Now we have two planes to sell. Cheers all round
and a 25 year loyalty pin coming up for the marketing genius who found a
gap in the numbering system. Confused?
