Stanley 62 low angle  plane

offered 1905 - 1942

14"  long with  2"  cutter

The plane pictured on the right is in exceptional condition and fetched an exceptional price.

This plane never made it big down under, I have only ever found two or three in tool chests, all the others were imported by dealers or collectors.

All low angle planes are deceptive to damage to the mouth. This can be in the form of minor chips, like the one pictured further down. If you file them out you end up with a mouth that is unacceptably wide for a low angle plane. All damage to the throat, front or back edge, reduces value. Also check the front end. The knob has a larger version of the eccentric lever used for block plane. It also has a cast iron bottom plate fixed to the rosewood knob. Both parts are often missing and hard to find.
