597 Ancient German carpenters broad hatchet with spike/nail puller and unique offset hammer poll and decorations. Fair for age with a crack below the heavy ridge going right through the cheek. Wm Low punched twice on cheek could be owner's mark.  One of Steve's early purchases that  set him off amassing around 150  ship axes. I told him many times that he probably was a shipwright in a former life. Pitted. This might be a case of the handle makes the axe. 10 1/4 x 5 x 31", 2.5kg

526 Swiss carpenters side axe/broad axe with keyhole nail & spike puller. Steve listed it as German but the maker's name is a lot more common in Switzerland. 519 Rare antique German squaring axe  (Beschlagbeil) - an early form of an extra high yet lightweight bearded axe documented back to the 16th century. The long neck all but disappeared by the 19th century which probably makes this the oldest tool in Steve's shed.
