1019 I think it's fitting to end my part in this sale in loving memory of Steve and Ron, with another of their combined creations:  a shipwright's axe to Steve's design copied from a Collins head, made by Ron Devin and hung with one of Steve's brown beech handles. This axe is is fully hardened and tempered and able to be put to work. 12 x 7 x 33", 3.2kg

1018 11" broad axe to Steve's design, made by his mate, the late Ron Devin, blacksmith of Esk. Fitted with a r/h stained hardwood handle. This axe is is fully hardened and tempered and able to be put to work. 8 x 11 x 32", 3.7kg

1017 Canadian monster 14" broad axe by TM Blasdell, Bytown from the mid 1800s. Note that the overlaid steel bit has de-laminated in three places right on the fire welded overlap with the wrought iron body. Also note the initials stamped by one of those indents - I thought it used to be common practice to mark repair work like re-steeling with the blacksmith's initials?  Probably the rarest broad axes Steve picked up locally back in 2005.  10 x 13 3/4 x 40", 4.7kg
