13" German broad axe, stave axe or hewing axe with very
good, deep and age conform decorations. Steve got it from a mutual
friend who acquired it locally - hence not one of the nasty imports from
the Balkans. Probably late 1800s/early 1900s. 12 x 13 x 19", 2.1kg |

Steve got this 18" goosewing broad/hewing axe head out of
Germany as 19th century tool. We discussed his purchase a few years
back. While the markings are in keeping with very old axes - often
apprentice pieces with religious references (IHS with a cross) I feel
they are not that old. Definitely has good age to it but my guess is
20th century rather than 19th. Still a very impressive axe. 10 x 18",
