900 European underground coal miners axe with vintage hickory handle. Stamped 777. Head 14", cutting edge 2", length 12 1/2", 1.6kg

899 13" German broad axe, stave axe or hewing axe with very good, deep and age conform decorations. Steve got it from a mutual friend who acquired it locally - hence not one of the nasty imports from the Balkans. Probably late 1800s/early 1900s.  12 x 13 x 19", 2.1kg

898 Steve got this 18" goosewing broad/hewing axe head out of Germany as 19th century tool. We discussed his purchase a few years back.  While the markings are in keeping with very old axes - often apprentice pieces with religious references (IHS with a cross) I feel they are not that old. Definitely has good age to it but my guess is 20th century rather than 19th. Still a very impressive axe. 10 x 18", 2.5kg

897 Another well made right hand 20th century German type hewing axe I got for Steve out of the USA twenty years ago. This one is fitted with a unique steel strap rather than the usual wedge to hold the handle in place. Stamped with a dolphin. 8 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 25", 2.7kg

896 Sweet  little 7 3/4" 'half" broad axe by D.O. Benjamin & Sons. As far as I can tell the smallest broad axe of this pattern in Steve's collection. Very good condition. 7 x 7 3/4 x 24 1/2", 2kg

886 C. Hammond, Boston ships axe with type conform short hickory handle. From Steve's notes: C Hammond is known to have mfd in Philadelphia ca 1868-1903 but there does not appear to be any research or record of his having worked in Boston, so this axe is a bit of a mystery. Very good, probably cleaned and burring removed. 10 1/2 x 7 x 28 1/2", 3kg
